RUINS OF THE FORMER ROYAL PALACE OF THE ALCÁÇOVA
The buildings now housing the Permanent Exhibition, Café and Casa do Leão Restaurant provide the most significant evidence of the former medieval royal residence. Areas of the RomanticGarden (2) and patios also display some architectural features that were part of the royal residence. The royal palace suffered heavy damage in the earthquake of 1755. In the entrance to the Permanent Exhibition, a copy of a 16th century drawing best illustrates the RoyalPalace and the city of Lisbon prior to the earthquake.
