Court Dances at the Castle – 15th Century

Castelo de São Jorge invites visitors to step into the vibrant court celebrations of the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, where dance evolved into a grand spectacle!
Through a series of historical reenactments showcasing dance, music, and spoken word from these three distinct eras, the Danças com História Association will present the various artistic expressions within the social, political, and cultural contexts of each period.

April 13, September 14: The 15th century with Gil Vicente
Gil Vicente pays tribute to Infante D. João, son of the King D. Manuel and his wife, D. Maria, in a splendid celebration at the Portuguese court. The festivity is attended by D. Leonor, widow of the late King D. João II, and D. Beatriz, mother of D. Manuel, to commemorate the birth of the prince. The event is marked by vibrant dances and a display of the riches arriving from all corners of the newly discovered world.
