
Court Dances at the Castle – 16th Century
Castelo de São Jorge invites visitors to step into the vibrant court celebrations of the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, where dance evolved into a grand spectacle!
Through a series of historical reenactments showcasing dance, music, and spoken word from these three distinct eras, the Danças com História Association will present the various artistic expressions within the social, political, and cultural contexts of each period.
May 11, October 12 – The 16th Century with Camões
In the 16th century, King D. Sebastião stirs the kingdom with preparations for the expedition to Africa. As the drumrolls and the clash of swords herald war, the court maintains its elegance with refined dances. In this setting, Luís Vaz de Camões presents his masterpiece of the Portuguese epic to King D. Sebastião, reciting the stanzas dedicated to the monarch.
