Do you mix garum with shredded chicken? Only at Castelo de São Jorge

What did Portuguese food consist of in the 15th and 16th centuries? How was the food prepared? Where were the products stored? How were the ingredients acquired? Would kitchens be similar to those of today? Were there recipes? How has Portuguese gastronomy evolved throughout history? We will answer all these questions at Castelo de São Jorge. The 16th of October marks World Food Day and that’s why we’re going to go back in time and get to know very old kitchens! Let’s understand what was consumed in Portugal and how some foods and cooking techniques have remained until today. To do this, let’s get to know a cookbook dating from the 16th century and learn some recipes.
