Military Arts at the Castle – Viking Raids
Military Arts at the Castle – Viking Raids
Inspired by the famous “Saga of Sigurd, the Crusader,” these demonstrations take visitors back to the 12th century, recreating the time of Viking raids in Portugal. This journey through history takes us from the supposed Norman destruction and conquest of 1109 to the submission of the Vikings to King Afonso Henriques after the conquest of Lisbon in 1147.
The activity includes demonstrations of hand-to-hand combat with medieval equipment – chainmail, almond-shaped shields, and nasal helmets – as well as exhibitions of archery and the handling of light siege weapons, such as battering rams and rope ladders.
At the end, participants will have the unique opportunity to try handling the weapons under the expert guidance of the members of the Ofício Bélico.
March 23, Abril 27 – 11AM, 2PM, 4PM
Ages 5+ | No booking | Included in the Castle entry ticket
