Archery and Crossbow
Archery and crossbow shooting demonstrations designed to highlight not only the technological disparities between these weapons but also their historical significance in shaping national identity. This encompasses a broad spectrum, ranging from the “besteiros do conto” militias to the specific role of English archers in the Battle of Aljubarrota.
This program will span across centuries, exploring the differences and evolution of ranged weapons. The traditional exercises of both archers and crossbowmen, including “shooting at the barrier,” will be demonstrated, showcasing the skill of the shooters and the capabilities of the weapons. Several shooters will be placed in the field to conduct comparative exercises among the various weapons. From the archer’s shooting speed to the crossbowman’s shooting power.
At the end of the demonstration, spectators will have the opportunity to try handling both the crossbow and the bow, under the guidance of members of Ofício Bélico.
