Shakespeare’s Ghosts
Shakespeare’s Ghosts
An installation by António Pires
Based on objects by João Mendes Ribeiro
“Shakespeare’s Ghosts” is a performative installation designed by António Pires, for the space of Castelo de São Jorge, based on scenographic objects by João Mendes Ribeiro, which evokes the imagination of William Shakespeare either through texts from his own plays, or through authors who revisited it in a poetic way, such as Federico Garcia Lorca and Luis Buñuel.
In this intervention, the director recovers objects previously conceived by the scenographer João Mendes Ribeiro, over the years for shows by Companhia do Teatro do Bairro, to create a route in the Castelejo space consisting of 6 choreographic moments/environments in a loop, which work autonomously, but also connected as a whole.
The work had the participation of actors Francisco Vistas, João Barbosa, João Sá Nogueira, Ricardo Aibéo, Sofia Marques, and Vera Moura who gave voice to the characters that are part of this universe.
